Relationship between Temporomandibular Disorder and Osteoporosis in Elderly Patients
Kim Moon-Jong

Abstract
As the elderly population increases, an understanding of the relationship between systemic diseases which prevalent in the elderly has become important. Osteoporosis is a bone metabolic disease common in the elderly, and is characterized by reduction of bone mineral density and deterioration of bone quality, which may increase the risk of fracture. Temporomandibular disorder is a chronic musculoskeletal pain condition that occurs in the masticatory system, and its prevalence in middle and older age is gradually increasing. Many previous studies have provided evidences for the association between osteoporosis and temporomandibular disorder and osteoarthritis in the temporomandibular joint. However, it is still difficult to draw a conclusion.
